Cape Town

It’s maybe not the first location where you think of when you’re planning a city trip, but actually Cape Town has the full package! Sun, sea, beaches, nightlife, good restaurants, bars, everything!

  • “Kaap die goeie Hoop” is the most southern point of Africa, by car accessible via Chapman’s peak (one of the worlds beautiful road trips). You can also visit here the beach where penguins live.  The beach of Muizenberg is worth a visit, especially for families.
  • Whale spotting: don’t go to Hermanus (where everyone is going), but visit Gansbaai. With a little fisher boat (Ivanhoe sea safari’s) you have a high chance of seeing the whales (check the season before you go).

Visiting Knysna – My favourite place during this trip. Beautiful views over the lagoon. I had my first surf lesson here. During the night we had an amazing dinner at Anchorage. It’s one of the best restaurants of the city, so reservations are necessary. Their main specialty is fish, but they also serve zebra, ostrich and antelope.

  • Knysna Elephant park is a great sanctuary. Reservations are needed, as the park only allows 6 to 8 visitors a day.
  • Tsitsikamma national park is beautiful, but not baby car proof (in case you’re travelling with young children)

Furthermore in Cape Town: Camps Bay (luxury beach a la Miami beach (read: expensive cars/high fashion/ beautiful hotels and sun glasses)

  • Restaurant Fork has delicious tapas! A reservation is a must!
  • The foodhallen on Waterfront are a little touristic, but that’s because there are some great terraces in the harbour with a view on the Table mountain.

Even if you are not Dutch, this website can still be very helpful: Here are many “top 10’s” mentioned, like top 10 best beaches, top 10 nicest coffee places, top 10 running spots, etcetera. Enough inspiration for your next trip to Cape Town!
