Beautiful Bali! My top 3 in (and around) Bali: Canggu, Nusa Lembongan and Gili Air. With Canggu as the big winner! Why? It’s all about surf, healthy restaurants, cool beach bars, hipsters and it’s not touristy (yet).
Crate cafe – Hugh menu with home made granola, fruit, fresh juices and smoothies. Beside the great food Crate looks pretty cool: there’s a lot of beton, poloraids and wood. – Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.64
Old man’s – Everyone on Bali knows Old man’s. Great beach club with cocktails, music, dancing and beerpong competitions. All you need for a great night out! – Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong
Avocado – Must go for breakfast or lunch! Upgrade your juice or smoothies with maca, chia or other superfoods. The sweets are all homemade, without sugar, gluten free and some are even vegan. – Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.69B
Runner up for best place nearby Bali is Nusa Lembongan, if you ask me. This island is less famous then the 3 Gili’s north of Lombok, but I don’t understand why. On this island you can feel vibe of local Indonesian life way more than there. Rent a scooter and drive around. Cross the cosy yellow bridge and discover the other island Nusa Ceningan. See the blue lagoon, dream beach and sunset beach. It’s also perfect for surfing! Don’t expect hostels, there are only bungalows and resorts, but it very easy to find affordable accommodations! Eat delicious food at the local “warungs” or go to one of the fancy beach clubs at the seaside.
Le Pirate – Take a fast boat to Nusa Lembongan. Le Pirate is a private beach club with a bar, restaurant, swimming pool and only 10 simple ‘Beach Boxes’. From the pool you have an amazing view over the lagoon. – Jl. Nusa Ceninga
Sandy Bay Beach Club – Perfect for sunset drinks! – Nusa Penida, Kec. Klungkung
Which island to choose? It’s depending on what you’re looking for: Gili Trawagan is famous for partying, Gili Meno for honeymooners and Gili Air is a mixture of both. I loved Gili Air! We stayed at Azazil Bungalows. Perfectly located, super friendly owner/staff and adorable bungalow with nice outdoor shower.
Not top 3 material, but also worth mentioning are Uluwatu, Ubud and Gili Trawagan.
The cultural heart of the Island. People say it’s the new Kuta and very touristy. It’s sort of true, but there’s a reason why everyone go there.
If you don’t want to party you can still stay on Gili Trawagan. It’s the biggest island of those 3 and on the West or North side of the island it’s more quiet. We stayed at Belukar Villas, one of the nicest bungalow rooms I’ve ever stayed in.
